FUNDAMENTALS OF BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM FOR LARGE SCALE PV PLANTS

Date:        18-19 May 2023 , 10am-6pm AEST  / Sydney Time

Delivery:   Hybrid Seminar (In-person | Online)

Venue:      Rydges or Hilton Hotel Sydney | Live Streamed via Zoom

Seminar Overview

As more intermittent renewable resources are added to the grid, it is inevitable that there will be more large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) associated with large-scale PV plants. There are many ways to go about incorporating BESS into PV plants, including ac-coupling, dc-coupling, lithium-ion, flow batteries and other more unusual hyped-up technologies, such as gravity energy storage systems and fly wheels. This course will help you make these multimillion-dollar decisions that will have lasting effects for decades. Taking this class can pay off big time.

Predicting the future is important. How long will our batteries and equipment last? What will we replace our batteries with? Will we be able to buy compatible components in 20 years? What are maintenance costs? How close should the BESS be to the PV system? How does a BESS condition the power on the grid? How will our batteries determine when to charge and when to discharge? After taking this class, you will be the valuable one with the answers to these questions and more.

About the Seminar Leader

Our seminar leader has been teaching solar and energy storage classes full time for 15 years. He speaks at conferences and teaches workshops on codes, standards and the fundamentals. He has taught in the USA, China, India, Italy, Seychelles, Philippines, Mongolia, Africa, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon, Malaysia, and Canada. Besides online training, his primary focus has been teaching week-long intensive “boot camp” courses to engineers, contractors, businesspeople, executives and others looking to refine their knowledge of solar and energy storage and for some to gain new knowledge in transitioning their old skills to a new renewable economy.

He has also on a regular basis speaks at conferences, moderates panels and teaches workshops on codes and standards. He participates in the PV Industry Forum, which is an organization that comes up with new material for the National Electrical Code in the U.S every 3 years.

He has authored various technical books on solar and storage, published by Routledge:

  • Solar Photovoltaic Basics, 2nd Edition
  • Energy Storage Basics
  • Solar PV Engineering and Installation, 2nd Edition
  • PV and the NEC 2nd Edition
  • Solar PV Technical Sales

In 2014 he was the proud recipient of the IREC Renewable Energy Trainer of the Year Award and is an IREC Certified Master Trainer. He was awarded the 2019 Global Green University Online Trainer of the Year Award, the 2019 APVIA Academic Contribution to Solar Energy Award in Shanghai and the 2011 Mike Holt 1st place instructor award. In 2020 he was awarded the SNEC (China) Online Trainer of the Decade Award.
